Any donations received after this date will be directed towards The National Library of Australia Fund, which supports conservation and digitisation of the Library’s collection. The National Library is full of surprises, among them being a small but significant collection of rare colonial currency, including convict-era promissory notes (which took the role of a circulating currency when coins were unavailable) and the first Commonwealth banknotes created following Federation. This year, the Library s annual appeal is seeking your support to research, preserve and digitise rare notes from our collection. The funds raised will bring new knowledge about these historically significant items to light, through the interpretation and description by a numismatic expert. Minister for Resources The Honourable Scott Stewart A native title determination will “change the lives” of traditional owners the Wangkamahdla People in central west Queensland. Resources Minister Scott Stewart said a determination recognising the Wangkamahdla People’s rights under native title to more than 3 million hectares of land to the west and southwest of Boulia has been made in the Federal Court. “This is a historic decision for the Wangkamahdla People, whose unbroken bond to their traditional country has been officially recognised,” Mr Stewart said. “This determination will help preserve Wangkamahdla ancestral connection to country and bolster traditions and values.” ....

Minister for Transport and Main Roads The Honourable Mark Bailey Upgrade works between Winton and Boulia on the Outback Way have wrapped up, just as $24 million worth of upgrades on Richmond-Winton Road also ramps up further to the east. The progressive sealing of the Outback Way is part of the Australian Government’s $330 million investment to improve the 2,700-kilometre route that links Laverton in Western Australia, with Winton in Queensland. Several projects have been completed in Queensland targeting productivity and safety improvements from Winton through to Tobermorey, west of Boulia, benefitting freight operators and various industries including agriculture, mining and tourism. ....
